ABOUT OTTER READING

Empowering Literacy for Every Child

I am SO extremely passionate about teaching literacy and sharing that love and passion with other teachers! I love teaching using the Orton Gillingham approach and I value everything that it stands for! I love creating lessons that are prescriptive, explicit, sequential, and multi-sensory in nature. My tools also directly align with the Science of Reading!

  • Orton Gillingham Certifications (Associate and Classroom Educator) through the Orton Gillingham Academy

  • Over 100 hours of OG training and teaching for over 5 years using the approach

  • Training in Project Read’s Framing Your Thoughts

  • Entering my 16th year of teaching

  • Masters in Reading

  • Pursuing my Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus in Literacy

I have an innovative multi-sensory resource that is patent pending! OTTER Tools allow for students to use a multi-sensory approach for literacy and I could not be more excited about being able to share this with other you and hope it helps support you with your students! I also love adding technology into my teaching and love creating fun multi-sensory tech resources to support students as well!

I have the Classroom Educator and Associate certifications through Orton Gillingham Academy. I have completed over 100 hours of training in the OG approach. I have taught over 1000 hours using the OG approach in the classroom and over 200 hours in a one on one setting with the approach which led me to receiving my certifications.

I majored in Multi-Categorical Special Education K-12 at Clemson University. Go Tigers! I completed my Masters of Reading with an elementary focus through Grand Canyon University. I have 16 years of experience in education! I am now out of the classroom and supporting curriculum content at Really Great Reading!

I am a single mom to my sweet daughter, Madelyne. She is my world and I love her so much! I would not be the person or teacher that I am without her. She is always by my side and my biggest cheerleader! I am also a type 1 diabetic and recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I have not let that hinder me from following my dreams. If anything, it allows me to relate just a little bit to my students who struggle with grasping the concept of reading. If I am not teaching or spending time with my daughter, you can find us on a soccer field or basketball court! If we are not there, we might be behind our sewing machines or our Cameo 4s! We love creating together!
